The boys from Middle School presented their annual February concert on Tuesday evening in the Concert Hall. The boys performed splendidly with a lively and varied programme. For many in Year 5, it was the first performance in a mixed orchestra or band situation. The Junior Orchestra opened the evening in fine style. How many primary aged orchestras could boast two double bass players and three harpists? The Jazz Band set toes a tapping and the Year 5 Strings entertained with two contrasting pieces. A new addition this year was the Year 6 Saxophone Quartet which was followed by the Year 6 String Quartet, fresh from Sunday’s Pro Corda Festival. The Junior Concert Band concluded the evening in fine style and took an encore, on behalf of all the evening’s performers, which included audience participation. Many thanks are due to the teachers who work with the Middle School groups and ensembles.
Well done the boys of Middle School – the future of ensemble and group playing is in safe hands. This was an event of which much older children would have been proud and the standing ovation received at the concert’s conclusion was richly deserved. We look forward to your next concert in June.
