Old Boys' Dinner at Lord's

Old Boys' Dinner at Lord's

The Association’s President, Roger Knight, OBE, cricketer, schoolmaster and administrator (and formerly MCC Secretary) was elected President of the MCC last October so the Long Room at Lord’s was the ideal venue for the Old Boys and their guests to toast the health of the school and of their Association.

Preceded by a voluntary tour of some of Lord’s iconic treasures, including the Ashes, 48 Old Boys spanning 60 years of Dulwich Prep schooling invited 60 guests from all sections of the Prep community – Governors, parents of former pupils, former staff, current parents and current staff – to join them in the Long Room Bar for a reception. At 8 p.m. the Long Room doors opened to reveal glittering tableware in a Long Room lit by hurricane lamps on the tables, lights from above the famous pictures lining the walls and the setting sun flooding across the most famous sward of cricketing turf in the world!

The President welcomed all to the Long Room before the Association’s Chairman, Peter Seldon, ran the dinner with impeccable timing, toasting the school and introducing the Headmaster who regaled the company with pertinent Prep related cricketing stories of high achievement. Replete from a three course meal, cooked to perfection and expertly served, the assembled company was treated to a tour de force by  famous comedy writer Old Boy, John Lloyd CBE, of Not the Nine O’clock News, Blackadder and QI fame, to name but a few of his programmes. John’s recounting of his life so far in broadcasting brought tears of laughter to the eyes of his admiring audience and a truly memorable evening to a close.
