Year 8 City Break

Year 8 City Break

The inaugural Year 8 'City Break' party spent a busy, varied and fascinating time in and around the wonderful city of Edinburgh. Every day and evening was packed with different experiences which included an orientation walk, a ghost walk above and below streets of the city, guided tours of Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace with many historical references that broadened their understanding of Edinburgh and Scotland's rich past.

We visited Glasgow and the Mackintosh Exhibition at The  Glasgow School of Art and even had some of our boys giving the remainder of the group a guided tour of Linlithgow Palace, where Mary Queen of Scots was born.

A day was spent at North Berwick on the coast with a visit to the Scottish Seabird Centre and a fascinating boat tour around Bass Rock, home to 150000 birds for six months of the year. We marvelled at the rugged beauty of Tantallon Castle on the cliffs and stopped at Athelstaneford where the legend of the Scottish Flag was born. With fish and chips on the beach, a night at the cinema and the beautiful train journey along the North East coast, so many memories were made and new things learnt along the way.
