Lower School Concert

Posted: 5th March 2020

The boys in Lower School are to be heartily congratulated on two splendid concerts which involved a record number of participants.

The String Orchestra displayed a real richness of tone with three beautifully delivered pieces.  The slightly less experienced boys of the String Ensemble also showed that the future of string playing at Dulwich Prep is in safe hands.  With brass and woodwind tuition only becoming available in Year 3, it is astonishing to think that boys who have only been learning for just over four terms, and in some cases just one, are already joining together in a group situation.  The Woodwind Ensemble played with a rarely heard accuracy and delicacy which belied such a recent commencement of tuition.  Likewise, the Brass Band showed real potential with three pieces, one of which having been composed by a member of the Band!   We also heard a fun contribution from the P Bone Group.  This is an instrument which serves as a precursor to tuition on the trombone. The Ukulele group entertained with two pieces and showed the popularity of an instrument that is currently experienced by all the boys in Year 4 class music.  Our singers also triumphed.  The Lower School Voices impressed with amazing part singing and performed two beautiful African folk tunes.  The Lower School Choir brought both concerts to a resounding close with a roof raising contribution.  The boys’ third piece involved audience participation, ensuring that everyone in the Concert Hall left with a smile on their face.

The standard on display would have graced any stage involving children of a much greater age and bodes so very well for the future.  Well done, the boys of Lower School and huge thanks go to the team of adults who teach and coach our young musicians.

Bravo!
