Music for Youth

Posted: 7th March 2017

‘Stirring’  ‘full of detail’  ‘excellent’  ‘real presence’  ‘rich sounding’  ‘a group truly as great as its constituent parts’.   Just some of the words drawn from the adjudicators’ comments at MFY 2017.

Almost 60 boys made the journey to Harrow Arts Centre to participate in the regional round of National Music for Youth Festival.  This is the largest youth music festival in the world, involving some 40,000 young musicians from across the British Isles.   A group from Dulwich Prep has been invited to the National Finals, held in Birmingham, almost every year in recent memory.

The Senior Orchestra began the afternoon session in fine style.  Its commanding and assured performance attracted very favourable comments from the MFY officials, staff at the Arts Centre and teachers from other schools and music centres.  The Big Band had toes tapping with three well-chosen pieces and, again, the audience reaction showed just how much the band’s performance had been appreciated.  Both groups should be proud of their performances and gave a display of musicianship that would grace any performance space involving musicians of a much greater age.

Dulwich Prep & Senior Announcement

We are delighted to share that we will be extending our provision from ages 3-13 to ages 2-16. Our first Year 9 cohort will start in September 2025.

As a highly commended school at this year’s Independent School of the Year Awards, we are excited to share that we will become Dulwich Prep & Senior.

We will continue to be a school of choice, maintaining our exceptional Prep offering with the option of staying to GCSE. Our support of families in finding the right senior school or sixth form at the right time for their sons will remain at our core, whether that be at ages 11, 13 or 16.

Our key entry points will be Nursery, Reception, Year 3, Year 7 and Year 9. Occasional places may be available in other year groups.

If you would like your son to be one of our ‘Trailblazers’ and join Year 9 in 2025 or 2026, please get in touch with our Admissions Department for further details.
