Remembrance Service at St Stephen's Church

Posted: 14th November 2018

Last Sunday morning, Dulwich Prep joined the congregation of St Stephen’s, College Road for the annual Service of Remembrance.  Over 50 musicians from the Prep participated in what was a moving and poignant occasion – especially given the significance of it being 100 years, to the day, since the Armistice at the end of the Great War.  The service was led by Reverend Canon Berhard Schünemann, Vicar at St. Stephen’s, and we heard Mrs Trot Lavelle, Reader at St Stephen’s and former Prep parent, give an interesting and thought provoking sermon.  Mr Roulston and four members of the Choir led the traditional Remembrance prayers.  The Choir sang a beautiful rendition of Psalm 23 by Howard Goodall as well as Mr Brooke’s setting of The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, is ended.  The Brass Group played World War 1 songs before the service and, along with Mr Brooke at the organ, accompanied the hymns.  The Brass Group also accompanied the National Anthem at the War Memorial where Mr Roulston and Head Boy, Louis Hogg, laid a wreath on behalf of the Dulwich Prep London community.  For the first time on authentic military bugles, boys from the Prep played the Last Post and Reveille.

Thank you to all who took part in this important occasion in our year.
