Rugby Round-Up

Posted: 24th January 2018

We have had a very positive start to the second half of the rugby season.  Despite the weather trying its best to dampen spirits, the boys have turned up focussed and ready to play.  A few good meals over Christmas have certainly helped and the boys have returned slightly bigger, stronger, faster and keener for the contact.

On Saturday 13th January our 1st team played against both Colfe’s and Fulham Boys’ School.  From the outset of the game it was clear that the break had not dulled our skills set and the boys played some superb rugby.  Breakdowns were clean and quick, support play was excellent and boys from the front row all the way through to the full back showed some superb handling skills and running lines.  It was a pleasure to see these boys perform so well after a slow start to the season.

On Tuesday the 16th  our U10s pitted the skills against what are always some very well drilled Shrewsbury house teams.  The matches were extremely competitive  with the As losing by 1 try, Bs drew, Cs lost 15-5, Ds drew, Es won 45-35 and the F team drew.

On Saturday 20th January our under 12A-D and 11A and B  teams all  travelled to Emanuel School.  A very cold and wet morning proved no challenge for our boys as they put on show some superb rugby skills.  The margins of victory across the board don’t tell how well the boys stuck to their game plans and played as a unit, creating the opportunities for those who eventually dotted down after stringing the phases together.

In a return fixture of sorts on Tuesday, our under 10s headed to Donhead to play in a triangular fixture against Donhead and Shrewsbury House.  It was a clean sweep against Donhead for our A,B,C,D and E teams.  We then played Shrewsbury House and managed to turn the tables on some of last week’s results with our As winning 20-0, Bs winning 5-0, Cs lost 20-5, Ds won 25-10, Es won 30-10 and our G team played Shrewsbury F team and managed a superb 45-40 win.

A very big thank you to all the staff who have been working with these boys and running these match sessions and to all the parents for your positive support on the touchlines.
