Chinese New Year at the Early Years

Posted: 9th February 2016

In the Early Years, we were treated to a wonderful assembly to celebrate Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey.

Most children had already been busy drawing or making models of monkeys at home for the spring challenge.  We had an incredible display of monkey photos, pictures and models.

In our Friday Assembly the children heard the centuries old story of Nian the dragon and how he was chased away by the inhabitants of a little village in China.

They learnt about the many traditions of Chinese families, from thoroughly cleaning their homes, buying new clothes to having a haircut to start the New Year clean and fresh and ready to welcome in good fortune. Our assembly ended with everyone receiving a red paper envelope containing some treats and a fortune cookie. Thank you to all the parents who so kindly took part.
