Admissions

The Admissions team are delighted that you are considering Dulwich Prep London for your son or daughter. Boys can begin their time at Dulwich Prep when they are 3 years old and stay until they are 13 in Year 8. Girls stay for Nursery only. Our main entry points are Nursery (age 3+ for boys and girls),  Reception (age 4+), Year 3 (age 7+) and Year 7 (age 11+).

A few additional places may arise from time to time in other year groups so do get in touch to check if spaces are available.

As a possible future school for your child, we would like to extend a warm welcome and guide you through the next steps in the process.

With the current COVID situation and the government guidelines, it is unfortunately not possible for us to bring children into our setting in bigger groups, as we have done in the past for assessment. Therefore, we shall be running our series of Enchanted Woodland Experiences at our Gallery Road site for our 3+ children. This will be a combination of familiarisation and assessment activities in an outdoor setting via a process that we hope remains as enjoyable and as smooth as possible for the children.

Boys and girls start in September when they are three years old and have their fourth birthday in this academic year (between 1st September and 31st August).  Most children come to school full-time but some are part-time, mornings only, in the first term. The ratio of boys to girls is approximately 5:1.  After Nursery the girls move onto other local schools.

Children are observed playing in small groups in the classrooms and our staff engage them with a variety of resources, such as construction toys and role-play. We usually have a short music session and finish with the children sitting together and listening to a story.

We ask parents to provide a copy of their child’s most recent school report and with parent permission, we will contact each child’s current setting. We understand that some young children will not be attending a nursery before visiting us and we are happy for prospective pupils to bring in a toy to share with us if this would help them to settle.

Whilst the children are playing, parents stay for tea or coffee and staff are available to answer any queries.

Every child is unique and we are looking for children who will flourish in our environment and take full advantage of our outstanding provision. Our assessments are designed to allow each applicant to demonstrate their strengths and as such include a wide range of elements beyond simple ‘tests’. It is important that our pupils enjoy every moment of their time with us and that begins with the assessment day for prospective pupils.

We want to feel confident that all our pupils will be happy and successful within our school, and that they will be able to access the curriculum. To this end, all children are assessed so that we can look at his or her potential and their attitude to learning. Our normal minimum standard for admission is above the average standard level of attainment for each age group, based on the National Curriculum.

Open Morning

Due to social distancing requirements we will not be able to host our annual Open Morning due to take place on Saturday 3rd Oct 2020. This event will be replaced by a virtual tour and a chance to meet the Head Master at a live Q&A session.

Please complete our enquiry form if you would like to be contacted about virtual events and to request more information.
