A record entry of 500 runners from over 30 prep schools took part in the annual Epsom College Prep Schools’ Cross Country Competition last Wednesday.
Thankfully the horrible weather forecasted stayed away just long enough as a 10 strong team from Year 5 and 7/8 raced around Epsom’s grounds, whilst spectators vigorously cheered them on out of pure excitement and to stave off the cold!
Our Junior Team took to the field first to tackle their 1.5 mile course, giving everything they had, showing some incredible team spirit and determination running up against a field dominated by runners from the year above. A superb effort and brilliant motivation for our Senior team. Starting at the 1st XI cricket pitch the senior boys took off at a canter on the challenging 2.5 mile course. Gradually the weather and course took its toll, but the boys continued to persevere with all the runners showing tremendous commitment as they vied to win individual medals and trophies for their school.
A brilliant run saw the Team Captain Toby finish in 2nd place, but with the rest of the team hot on his heels it was the team competition that was on everyone’s mind.
A fantastic effort throughout by all who ran and a wonderful way to finish the day, lifting the Senior team cup!
