Internationally renowned trumpet player teaches masterclass

Posted: 19th April 2016

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Alison Balsom, internationally renowned trumpet player and current Prep parent, who gave of her time to teach a masterclass on Friday afternoon to young trumpeters from both the Prep and Kingsdale Foundation School.

Alison has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music’s great ambassadors and is ranked amongst the most distinctive and ground-breaking musicians on the international circuit today.  Alison also regularly teaches masterclasses worldwide including at the Julliard School, New York, and the Curtis Institute, Philadelphia.  Fortunate we are, then, that she allows us to add Dulwich Prep London to that illustrious list.

Twelve young musicians, ranging from a pupil of only one term’s tuition to those more experienced players performing concerto moments, benefited from Alison’s wisdom and experience as she expertly gave thoughts and instructions as to how their playing could be developed.

It was obvious to all that every student’s performance was enhanced.  It was a wonderful afternoon – whether participating or listening and everyone will have taken many positives from the experience either as a performer or, indeed, as a teacher.
