Congratulations to three Year 4 boys – Lucas Downing, Harry Chauhan and Edward Ellam – who were part of the Kent team which won the U9 national county chess championship held last Saturday at Nottingham High School. It was a very convincing win for Kent, scoring 33 out of a maximum 36 points. Barnet (which covers North London and Middlesex schools) came second with 29.5 points and Sussex came third with 26.5 points. This was an outstanding result and the fact three Prep pupils were involved, out of a squad of 16, shows the fantastic progress being made in chess at the school. The three boys won eight out of the nine games they played and the school was the most-represented school in the Kent team.
