The natural phenomena of honey bees swarming has fascinated humans for millennia and we were able to witness our very own swarm on Tuesday outside the cookery classroom. It started about midday with first a few and then many more – about 2000-4000 in all, settling on a low bush. Under the watchful eye of our resident beekeeper, Mr Elliott, these were knocked in to a box with the rest soon following… From here there were taken to the apiary where they should do well. To find out more about the wonderful world of bees, look out for details of Mr Elliott’s next Leake Lecture in the Autumn Term.
