Swimmers crowned London Champions

Posted: 18th May 2016

Nine days on from being crowned National Champions the Year 7 and 8 swim squad boys were back in action competing in the London Independent Schools Grand Final.

As the last competitive swim of the year and the final farewell for those in Year 8, the boys’ determination to finish the season strongly was palpable.

Unsurprisingly, the boys set a fast pace with team captain Andrew, and vice-captain Willem opening by winning the first couple of races. The rest of the team duly followed their lead as the boys carried on winning and turning the heads of spectators, coaches and other competitors as they saw how fast the boys were!

Having won 11 out of the 18 individual races the boys really began to relax and enjoy themselves as we approached the relays.  The combined talents of the boys now came together as they really showed their class.  There was no better example of this than watching the boys 16x25m squadron relay where the team demolished their closest rivals, Latymer by almost half a length and the rest of the field by a length to win.

Finishing first and being crowned winners of London just nine days after Nationals in such style really was the icing on the cake.   Huge congratulations must go to all the boys involved and especially to those Year 8 boys who we say goodbye to at the end of this term.
