Athletics Finals at Norman Park, Bromley

Posted: 24th May 2016

The Athletics Finals took place at Norman Park in Bromley on Saturday 21st May.  We woke up to ominous looking skies, causing memories of the past two years’ cancelled events to come flooding back. But – thankfully – the rain held off and allowed us to run this fantastic event.

Almost 200 boys qualified for the track and field events.  As has always been the case at this event, the races were hotly contested and victories were hard fought. Boys took part in a very competitive but sporting manner, with the leaders waiting at the finishing line to cheer on those still competing.  This was the second year that we included the Year 4 boys and they too stepped up their efforts and provided some of the most exciting races of the day.

There were some outstanding individual achievements with some boys competing in up to 6 events on the day.  The support for all the athletes in track events (both long and short) and field events was greatly appreciated by all who took part. The morning was extremely well rounded off with the crowds gathered alongside the high jump event as we all watched in awe as Zac (8L) took on the bar.  You could hear the crowd inhale deeply and will him over the bar every time he took off and he eventually ended up winning the event clearing a height of 1.59m.

The morning ended in glorious sunshine and was made even better by the atmosphere of sportsmanship, camaraderie and a high level of achievement celebrated by parents, staff and boys.

Thank you to everyone who turned up to support an event which is now cemented in our sporting calendar and thank you to the staff for ensuring the day ran so smoothly.
