The Year 8 boys and accompanying staff had a lovely, relaxed and informative week away in the (largely) sunny Bay of Naples. The events of 79AD were brought to life through visits to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples Archaeological Museum, Vesuvius and the volcanic craters at Solfatara. This was enriched by seeing the amazing relics, remains and finds and hearing many stories of Pliny, Roman life, architecture and art.
We learnt to make ice cream with huge local lemons, ordered ice creams in Italian, sampled pizzas in the areas where the margarita pizza was born, had evening walks into town, shopped in the alleyways of Sorrento, played, talked and even had time for a dip in the hotel pool.
The boys were a pleasure and delight throughout making the trip a very special memory for all of us. Some boys are promising to take their parents back one day!
