Prep Pupil wins first prize in Royal College of Art competition

Posted: 8th March 2017

Congratulations to Sam Borden who has won FIRST PRIZE in the Royal College of Art YOUNG ART exhibition in the Year 4-6 age group.  The competition (in aid of Cancer Research UK) attracted 7,000 entries and was judged by the esteemed artist James Hart-Dyke.  Sam receives a prize, a goody bag from Cass Art and will have his picture professionally framed.

Sam Borden; Age 10; The Journey, Colouring pencils and pencil

This image is about a man walking to the mountains in search of peace and quiet. He is alone and he is on a journey to prove to himself that he has the courage and strength to survive in the wilderness. This is about Man’s desire to overcome the challenges and difficulties of life. The man is on a journey. I was inspired by some mountain images I had seen and I like being out in the open. I like the quirkiness of Picasso and the freedom he shows in his work and that the picture does not have to be perfect to be liked.
