Swimmers take home gold!

Posted: 21st June 2017

What a week it has been for the boys in the Middle School swim squad! On Wednesday the boys in Years 5 and 6 took part in the London Schools Individual Championships.  There were some fantastic results – a Gold medal in the 25m Freestyle, a Silver medal in the 25m Butterfly, and Bronze medals in the 25m Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly respectively. However it was overall the boys really shone, by winning the top boys’ school Trophy which is 120 years old this year and Mr Roulston’s favourite.

However the boys were not finished there as Mason, Otto, Peter, Henry and Ethan travelled to Sheffield to take part in the English Schools National Primary Team Championships. The boys were in awe as they walked out onto poolside to swim in the same pool that holds the British Championships and Commonwealth and Olympic trials.

The first event was the 4x25m Medley relay for which the boys qualified comfortably. In the final,  our team came a clear second, winning silver behind a very strong Dulwich College team. The boys spirits were already high as they swam in the 4x25m freestyle relay and again qualified for the finals in second place just over a second behind the boys from Dulwich College. In what has been called the closest final in English Schools Swimming history the Prep won the gold medal by coming from behind on the last leg in a fantastic finish to win by two hundredths of a second. This result in turn meant that both Dulwich Prep London and Dulwich College lifted the trophy and finished as joint overall top boys’ school. What a day for Dulwich!
