Dulwich Prep sent a team of four Year 7 boys to compete in the South East Regional Heat of the International Kids’ Lit Quiz yesterday afternoon. It was, the New Zealand Quiz Master informed us, the largest heat in the UK, with 42 teams competing to take part in the National Final and then on to the International Final next July in Auckland, New Zealand. The Quiz is open to students from Year 6 to Year 8, so our team was younger than many, and yet we did astoundingly well. The boys had to answer 100 questions in ten different rounds, each with a theme such as ‘Finance’, ‘Caves’ or ‘Footwear’! Our team chose to play their Joker (entitling them to double their points for that round) on a more traditional round entitled ‘Myths and Legends’ – and that turned out to be the correct decision. They scored 9 out of 10 for that round, the highest score in the room, earning themselves a ‘Round Prize’ of a collection of books. When the final scores were tallied we were delighted to hear that we had come 6th with 82 points – which was only 7 points behind the winning team! Huge congratulations to Ayan, George, Jed and Nicholas for a brilliant performance.
