At the beginning of the 4L assembly, some interesting facts were presented: in school there are, at least, 29 different languages spoken by the boys, 7 religions and 26 ethnic groups represented. In 4L alone there are 7 languages spoken, 4 religions and 12 different ethnic background groups.
What followed was a fascinating stroll through the history of diversity in the United Kingdom, illustrating very clearly that to see and know people from all corners of the world one need look no further than our local community. The boys then talked about the diversity within their own family and some of the things they are most proud of. These included a relative who owns farms in Nigeria, furniture makers in Italy, a Cornish connection, the winning of a Victoria Cross and indeed a direct link to royalty! The icing on the cake was the boys’ superb rendition of ‘This is me’ from the film ’The Greatest Showman’, epitomising the message that all people should be valued in our society. We should all be proud of who we are and the family we come from.
