Last Friday 8W’s two week drama project culminated in an evening performance entitled ‘Strong Women’ to coincide with International Women’s Day. The quality of performance the boys produced was an extraordinary achievement given the time-frame, the complexity of the script and the focus on women in a boys’ school. Far from being awkward and contrived, as one 8W mother put it: ‘the timely subject matter combined with half the cast dressed as women resplendent in long curly wigs and crimson lipstick gave the boys a platform to express their feminine characters with pride and carefree abandon rarely seen amongst prep school boys’. With the expert guidance of Mr Sperring the cast led the audience seamlessly from Monty Python mirth to Lady Macbeth’s murderous plotting as well as many moods in between. The production was enjoyed and appreciated by all who were lucky enough to be there. Well done to 8W and thank you to Mr Sperring.
