Year 1 at Rochester Castle

Posted: 12th November 2019

This term Year 1 are learning about Knights and Castles.  To support their topic, the boys visited Rochester Castle where they became knights for the day climbing steep steps to the very top of the tower!  Through the stone archways and narrow staircases, the boys were able to truly imagine what life may have been like in the 12th century.  When they reached the top, the boys were treated to fantastic views of the Kent countryside and the River Medway through the crenulations and arrow slits.

Whilst in Rochester, the boys were also treated to a visit to the beautiful cathedral and Guildhall Museum. At the museum, the boys had a wonderful workshop on heraldry and then designed their very own coat of arms. At the Guildhall museum the boys were given the opportunity to shoot mini catapults, dress up as Norman knights and hold a real life sword. All in all a super trip!
