A traditionally tough and fast paced tournament was always going to be a great test of the Year 6’s progress so far this term. They displayed a tremendous attitude and commitment throughout the day. The first two games were extremely tight and could have been won by either team but DPL came away with a 1-0 win versus Trinity and a 1-0 loss against Shrewsbury House. The biggest challenge was to come against Donhead (Team of the Day Winners), the boys defended on their own tryline for long periods before breaking away in the last play to sneak a draw.
The next two games were a chance to display their attacking intent, moving the ball into space and attacking branches, beating both Cranmore and Cumnor House. The best display of the day came against the hosts who were a considerably larger side. Despite going a score down, they produced a very mature performance showing great continuity with the ball and effective work at the breakdown which ended with Sam N score in the last play to win 2-1. The final match was a thriller against St George’s despite carrying numerous injuries. This time we were on the receiving end of a last minute try to lose 3-2.
The boys were brilliant all day and showed a real togetherness as a group. They finished the day with 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Well done to all 12 boys involved a superb achievement.
