Compassion Matters

Posted: 16th January 2019

Love and Compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. Dalai Lama.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Compassion Matters, an educational initiative from the Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion, delivering a programme to our Middle School boys which explores secular ethics and moral philosophy.  The aim of the programme is to help children develop their moral virtues, teach them to reflect, and build a pathway to improved well-being.  The concept of compassion links directly with our school values and we hope it will help us build a more considerate, thoughtful and compassionate school community.

The initial Assembly was led by Mr Topham who introduced the boys to the story of Richard Moore, a man who, despite losing his sight as a young boy, has achieved something extraordinary.

Having watched a short film detailing Richard’s life and experiences, the boys will now begin discussions and activities within their tutor groups in order to gain a better understanding of not just Richard Moore’s extraordinary story but other examples of compassion within their own lives and daily experiences as well as wider-reaching issues around the world.

We hope that your boys will want to talk more at home about their work with Compassion Matters as they progress through the programme. Please feel free to watch the video yourselves via this link, https://compassion-matters.org/compassionfilm/ so that you can gain a greater insight into this extraordinary man and his message.
