Pre-Prep Eco Club

Posted: 21st March 2019

Our Pre-Prep Eco Club has had the most wonderful time over the past 2 weeks getting close to nature and exploring the wildlife in our local area thanks to our school’s ‘Eco Governor’, Mrs Celia Randell. She invited the boys into her beautiful garden to hunt for mini beasts, search for hedgehogs and go pond dipping. The boys were thrilled to discover slugs, bees, spiders and woodlice.

The Year 2s had the important task of delivering toad spawn to Mrs Randell’s pond and saw newly hatched tadpoles. Some also saw their first ever newt and were shown how to handle them carefully and spot their orange stomachs. We also learnt about toad cairns and which plants and areas in a garden provide the best habitats for particular minibeasts. The visit proved a huge hit with our budding environmentalists and they are keen to return in the summer to look for butterflies and see how the toad spawn adapts to its new home.
