Rugby Sevens

Posted: 21st March 2019

The Gallery Road fields were in immaculate condition last Saturday to welcome 15 of the UK’s rugby playing schools for the Sevens Rugby event.  For the first time an U12 competition was included and in the first round all teams played each other once. During the round robin matches, bonus points were awarded for three tries. The U13 competition was made up of two group stages of five teams each after which the teams were seeded from 1-10 and competed for the Cup, the Plate and the Bowl. Winners were:

U12                       – Bedford

U13 Bowl             – The Downs

U13 Plate             – Haileybury

U13 Cup               – Trinity

Some superb sevens rugby was displayed. Many positive comments were made by parents and referees alike about the quality of play on the day. The boys were addressed by current England Sevens Academy coach and ex- England Sevens Captain, John Brake, who was very complimentary about the skill level on the day.

All the players displayed the RFU Core rugby values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship, a great advert for the game.
