Southwark Book Award 2019

Posted: 14th May 2019

Over 50 students representing the different schools in Southwark that had been shadowing and voting for the 2019 Southwark Book Award, came to the Prep last Thursday morning for the Award Ceremony.  Members of our Year 7 Book Club were amongst those students who took part in round table discussions assessing each of the shortlisted titles according to Plot, Style, Setting, Characterisation and Theme.  After the discussion, the students were treated to short presentations from three of the shortlisted authors who were present at the Ceremony:  Sita Brahmachari (Tender Earth), Matt Killeen (Orphan Monster Spy) and Ele Fountain (Boy 87), as well as video greetings from Alice Broadway (Ink) and Abi Elphinstone (Sky Song).  The culmination of the Ceremony was the presentation of the Award, by Mr Roulston, to Ele Fountain – a very popular winner with her wonderful debut novel, Boy 87.  The Award is run by SELF (the Southwark Education Librarians’ Forum) and, this year, was sponsored by Dulwich Prep.
