Rwandan genocide survivor visit

Posted: 24th September 2019

Rwanda-2

On Friday 20th, boys were treated to a display of what our school values look like in “the real world”. Freddy Mutanguha, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, spoke deeply movingly about how it had felt to lose one’s parents, to be a 10 year old hiding from the militia while they came searching, and the difficult process afterwards of forgiveness.

Backing him were the board of the Aegis Trust. They were each in their own way very different – a doctor, a serial entrepreneur, a social worker, a war crimes prosecutor and a financier who gives half his company’s profits to charity. The reasons they gave for giving their time in support of the trust were different too. In terms of values, though, there was a striking overlap. Each, though, stressed the importance of service, courage, humility and perhaps most of all love.

We are hugely grateful to Freddy and all the board of the Aegis Trust not just for giving up their time for us but for everything they do and continue to do to build peace.
