Prep+ Trip to the Tower

Posted: 31st January 2018

From Romans to Tudors, from trials and executions to polar bears, ravens and the crown jewels! We (22 parents and boys) began our tour looking at the old Roman wall and other notable buildings, memorials and architecture around Tower Hill Station with our wonderful blue badge guide and former old girl, parent and then governor Philippa Owen!

Pouring over an old map of the Thames, the settlement and the Tower were put into such clear context. We then spent two hours inside the Tower being told many fascinating stories about the buildings, monarchs, people, events and even animals in and around that magical world behind the Tower gates. A visit to the crown jewels and the Bloody Tour were just two of many highlights.

It brought history to life and as one of our party commented ‘I’ve lived in London for 35 years and had never been  on such a brilliantly organised and guided trip, that brought so much relevance to what the boys study’. It was a delight for us all and we can’t wait for another history walk in our wonderful city.
