Rugby Sevens 1st VII placed Runners Up

Posted: 8th March 2016

Last weekend saw a busy few days of rubgy matches for our 1st VII team with tournaments on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday:  The Downs Tournament

On Saturday the 1st VII went to The Downs Tournament in Bristol. They won all their group matches to meet Port Regis in the quarterfinal. The boys then progressed through to the semi-final after a very convincing win.

They met The Downs who gave us one of the toughest matches we have come across so far this season but we were able to win by one try. We then met our regular final rivals, Caldicott who proved too strong for us on the day. We ended up as runners up for this tournament.

Sunday: National Schools Rugby Tournament

We took part in the National Schools Rugby Tournament on Sunday after qualifying last month. The boys were very tired after being in Bristol at a Sevens Tournament the day before and struggled during the group games by losing two and winning two. Because they scored 4 tries in their last match, they ended up going through to the semi-finals as the second placed team in their group. They played the semi-final against New Beacon who had won all their group games and were superb, winning by 4 tries to 1. We ended up meeting Shrewsbury House in the final but unfortunately lost very narrowly, 10-7. The boys are to be commended on their drive and determination for this past weekend. Well done!
