Pre-Prep

The boys arrive with us in the Pre-Prep excited and ready to learn after a fantastic start to their educational journey in the Early Years. We encourage boys to develop and build upon their abilities in all areas of school life and take pride in their achievements.

Within the structured school day, boys quickly gain independence, self-confidence and an enthusiasm for learning. Emphasis is placed on trying one’s best, being kind and tolerant of others and their points of view, and developing the schools’ values which include Humility, Courage and Self Discipline. Our innovative and exciting curriculum encourages the boys to develop all the characteristics needed for effective learning.

In Pre-Prep we follow the Read Write Inc scheme for the teaching of phonics. The majority of our school day consists of Maths and English in the morning and Science, Topic and the arts placed in the afternoons. The class teacher teaches the majority of the curriculum and we also have a number of specialist teachers for Games, Swimming, Music, Drama, MFL, PSHCE and Computing. The boys’ studies are interspersed with wonderful trips and events and a number of extra-curricular clubs during the school day.

The Pre-Prep has its own building but benefits from access to the other fabulous facilities of the main site in Alleyn Park including the music school, cookery suite, sports hall, swimming pool, science and Design Technology labs and observatory. We have approximately 160 pupils aged between 5 and 7 years old and each year group is divided into 4 classes of up to 20 pupils. When the boys enter Year 1, they are placed into the four school tribes or houses and enjoy participating in termly Pow Wows which include team building activities with boys across Pre-Prep and Lower School.

The older boys from other parts of the school demonstrate the value of Service by assisting our Pre-Prep boys with reading and play. They often collaborate with topics or projects, leading by example and encouraging the younger boys in their learning.

We work hard to ensure that the nurturing, positive and friendly environment in the Pre-Prep allows all our pupils to flourish under the supportive guidance of their class teacher and classroom assistant. We aim to create confident pupils with a firm sense of belonging and well-being, whilst enabling them to make the smooth transition to the Lower School.

Dulwich Prep & Senior Announcement

We are delighted to share that we will be extending our provision from ages 3-13 to ages 2-16. Our first Year 9 cohort will start in September 2025.

As a highly commended school at this year’s Independent School of the Year Awards, we are excited to share that we will become Dulwich Prep & Senior.

We will continue to be a school of choice, maintaining our exceptional Prep offering with the option of staying to GCSE. Our support of families in finding the right senior school or sixth form at the right time for their sons will remain at our core, whether that be at ages 11, 13 or 16.

Our key entry points will be Nursery, Reception, Year 3, Year 7 and Year 9. Occasional places may be available in other year groups.

If you would like your son to be one of our ‘Trailblazers’ and join Year 9 in 2025 or 2026, please get in touch with our Admissions Department for further details.
