Job Description

We are looking to hire an outstanding musician who can teach students of various ages in our Early Years and Pre-Prep Departments. The role includes leading musical rehearsals for school productions and assemblies, with potential involvement in wider school performances. The ideal candidate should be a highly skilled pianist and keyboardist with strong musical abilities and preferably experience teaching music to young children.

Music plays a central role at our school, with boys starting specialised music classes from age three until they graduate at 13. Our Early Years (Nursery & Reception) and Pre-Prep (Years 1 to 3) pupils receive instruction from specialist teachers, while three additional teachers cover the curriculum from Years 4 to 8.

Our concert program features everything from informal pupil concerts showcasing soloists and small ensembles to grand events at prominent London venues. The annual Carol Service and Spring Choral Concert are hosted at notable locations like Southwark Cathedral or Fairfield Halls. Furthermore, each school section presents two major concerts annually, with Christmas, Easter, and end-of-term celebrations held at St Stephen’s Church in Dulwich, near the school.

The Music School is home to a Concert Hall that accommodates three hundred people and is equipped with a C7 grand piano and a two-manual Copeman Hart digital organ. It also contains thirteen rooms for instrumental lessons, a combined classroom/music technology suite, and offices for the Music Director and other full-time music staff.

Over thirty instrumental instructors visit weekly to provide more than 550 individual lessons. An impressive 97% of students learn an instrument, and many participate in one of our many choirs, ensembles, orchestras or bands, earning national and local awards.
