Year 2 sculptures inspired by David Wallace

Year 2 have been busy creating their own sculptures this week, inspired by Australian artist David Wallace. David grew up in Ltyentye Apurte (SantaTeresa) south-east of Alice Springs, and now lives in Titjikala in the Northern Territory. When he was young, he would go with his cousin out into the bush where they built a toy station, including cattle and horses from recycled materials. After leaving school, David worked as a stockman, breaking in horses, fixing bores, and mustering cattle. His sculptures are based on his experiences of travelling, working the land, and community life in Central Australia. The boys in Year 2 have been working hard to re-create their own horse rider sculptures, using wool and string instead of wire.  The David Wallace sculpture pictured below is called ‘Stockman and Horse’ (1997) and was exhibited at the National Gallery of Australia.
